The Festival
The originality of the Faito Doc is in the conjunction of a ‘naturally cinematographic’ place with the seventh art, nourished by a spirit of cheerful fraternity that reaches out to the participant, actor or spectator of the event, making him or her the protagonist of a cultural feast. Authors and directors come from all over the world with their own visions of reality, to present their films.
In sixteen years, the festival has sown a wealth of ideas and values that have restored cultural relevance to Monte Faito, also regenerating the spirit of the area and stimulating good energy and new activities in the area. The Faito is an extra-urban place, a natural park located 1,131 metres above sea level embracing two gulfs, facing the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius, the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida it is a landscape imbued with nostalgia, appearing and disappearing in the clouds.
The sensory virtues of this mountain by the sea lend themselves to the screening of creative documentaries, to encounters and debates, and to the confrontation of strong and personal views and points of view on how to narrate reality in cinema. The belvedere and the changing light become simultaneously and thanks to cinema a beautiful view of the world in which we live.
Now in its 16th edition, Faito Doc pursues its aim of revealing and highlighting new forms of cinematographic languages to narrate reality. From direct cinema to animation, from the cinema of the intimate to the experimental, the festival reveals to the public the qualities of the auteur documentary, a genre that is still too little distributed. Like every year, it brings together documentary films from all over the world around a universal theme. After “Brotherhood”, “Rebirth”, “Passion”, “Identity”, “Madness”, “Movement”, “Empathy”, “Inebriation”, “Return”, “Horizons”, “Vertigo”, “Rhythm”, “Metamorphosis I” in 2020, “Metamorphosis II” in 2021, “Evasions”; “Diversity” will be the theme for 2023, enhancing and analysing cinematically the changes we are still experiencing in our society.
The number of young people eager to join the event has also grown, and the FAITO DOC CAMP set up during the event around the ‘House of Cinema’ is proof of this. Participation in the FAITO GIOVANI, an art and film workshop for young people aged 7 to 17, and the sensory and nature walks along the paths of the Mount are increasingly popular.
The Faito Doc Festival is one of the destinations for fans of cinema of reality, and many foreign as well as Italian filmmakers enter their work in one of the calls, hoping to be selected in international competitions.
The number of young people eager to join the event has also grown. The Faito Doc Camp area, which was created for the festival around the ‘House of Cinema’ thanks to the Friends of the Filangieri of Castellamare, is a fine example of this. In each edition, the Faito Doc Festival maintains the qualities of empathy and sharing and offers the public a taste of the best of international auteur documentaries by creating encounters with the directors and/or protagonists of the films. The thematic festival allows to deepen and bring together with multiple aspects a universal question.
