AUTHORS selected for Pitching

Simone Vacca

‘Fabbriche di Memoria’ (IT)

Born in La Paz, Bolivia in 1990, grew up in Italy. In high school he discovered photography, then became passionate about cinema. After studying Art History, he works both as a freelance filmmaker and for major production companies. He loves adventurous projects as spiritual exercises, to connect deeply with viewers.

Serena Vittorini

‘Il processo’ (IT)

Serena Vittorini, an Italian artist based in Brussels, turned to the visual arts after a degree in psychology. Her initial work focused on the transformation of places and the relationship between space and memory. Over the years, her interest shifted to identity, exploring childhood and family relationships, and using her own experience to address universal themes. She integrates photography, installation and video into her practice. In 2020, she directed “En ce moment”, selected for the Giornate degli Autori at the Venice Film Festival.

Maria Hermosillo

‘Feité’ (BE/MEX)

I was born in Mexico and have been living in Belgium for 9 years. I have a degree in image technology, production section at the HELB and a Master’s degree in Cultural Management at the ULB. Since 2019 I have worked as a production manager on various documentary projects and I have also worked on the organisation of several film festivals. I am currently writing my first feature-length documentary.

Adèle Funès

‘La montagne ne rigole pas’ (FR)

Daughter of a baker and a market gardener in the Alps, I began my studies with a focus on political science, with a view to becoming a journalist. During my training, I quickly became interested in the environmental problems caused by our food systems around the world. So I went on to study the diversity of agricultural models and ways of living without destroying. After a number of professional experiences and many encounters, I realised that we needed to develop a whole new relationship with living things if we were to transform our way of surviving on Earth by feeding off what grows on it. So I wanted to write a film project that would suggest other ways of seeing the world before our eyes, so that we could feel it move and exist.

Jacques Sorrentini Zibjan

‘Volgar Eloquio’ (FR)

Jacques Sorrentini Zibjan is an artist, filmmaker and musician. He works with sound and image. He studied engineering at the École Centrale de Marseille, then went on to do a doctorate in physics at the Institut Fresnel (CNRS x AMU), during which time he began practising photography and sound creation. He then went on to study at the École de photographie d’Arles and the École de cinéma documentaire de Lussas. His work then focused on making films and videos, which were selected for several festivals in France and abroad (Kasseler Dokfest, UnderDox, Stuttgarter Filmwinter, Festival Jean Rouch, Corsica Doc, Traces de Vies, Bogotá Film Festival, among others). At the same time, he has extended his visual research to include installations, performances and sound pieces. What do we share in a society? Jacques Sorrentini Zibjan’s artistic approach is organised around this question of the common good. Entertainment, the mass media, rituals and beliefs are the source of his work. Despite using quasi-scientific recording protocols, his approach often takes the form of a sideways step, allowing humour to creep in, refusing to immerse the viewer completely, and instead inviting him or her to play an active role in distinguishing between documentary and fiction, the event from the accident, the reasonable from the absurd. fiction, the event from the accident, the reasonable from the absurd. In this way, it is the act of representation itself that is called into question.

The Faito Doc Festival pitching is a week-long journey that accompanies authors in the birth of documentary projects, supporting those who have not yet found favour with the industry or institutions. Imagining a ‘pitching that gives wings’, we want authors to leave our mountain with constructive enthusiasm, ready to follow the right path to tell their stories with lightness, depth and good humour. Our main allies are Sabam and Scam, both of which are multidisciplinary in nature and support a rich variety of authors and creatives.

Public Pitching Presentation: Wednesday 23 July h 18:00.
